2019 Penn York Rally Info

I know those of you who attended the Pumpkin Run this spring are still reeling from that, but we wanted to get some information out about the Penn Your rally in Beach Lake this fall.

Carol and I will be running our inaugural rally and we have already found the help from the “old masters” immeasurable! Jim Feeney and Louise will be setting up the course (progress on that front has already been made), Corky and Ryan (and maybe Tim) will be helping coordinate and scoring, Joe and Patty Roche and Jim Sr. will complete the all hands on deck for the fall.

Our host hotel is once again the Central House Resort just a few hundred feet from the firehouse. Please try to register as soon as you know you are coming. Their number is 570-729-7411 and remember to ask for the Northeast Rally Club rates.

Start thinking about the auction/raffle gift that we ask each team to bring to help raise money for our host, Beach Lake Fire Co.  Your entry fee only covers the cost of putting on the rally and does not include a donation for our host.

Carol will be getting entry forms out in the mail in August or you can just pull one off the website.

We have picked out what we think will be a really nice venue for Thursday night also, just a few miles from the hotel.

Our email address is carol@jandcawards.com  and our phone is 570-224-6583 if you have any questions at this early date.

We will update this post as we get closer with more specific information.

Hope to see you all there!

I realize it’s still winter but here in Millsboro we are preparing for the 19th annual Pumpkin Run (after 18 years I just can’t change the name).  The courses are complete and Jim Feeney will be here in March to time the courses.

** If you haven’t made your hotel reservations, please do it soon.  The hotel is booked and has already asked if I can give up any of the rooms that I have blocked. Call Quality Inn in Georgetown (302-854-9400) and ask for the Northeast Rally Club rates.  Also, be sure to ask about their cancellation policy.

** Please complete and return your entry form as soon as possible. It is really hard to plan when you don’t know how many will be joining us.

** Also on the entry form this year I’m asking if you plan to attend the no-host dinner on Thursday night.  Last year a few had to be turned away because I only made reservations for the same number as the prior year and the restaurant was full.

** We will begin the rally on Friday morning (April 26th) at 8:00 am with registration and tech inspection at the Fire Hall.  And we will try our best to have you on the road home by 1:30 on Sunday.  A schedule of events will be mailed in early April.

** Start thinking about the auction/raffle gift that we ask each team to bring to help raise money for our host, Millsboro Volunteer Fire Co.  Your entry fee only covers the cost of putting on the rally and does not include a donation for our host.

If you have any questions, please contact me at 302-934-1246 or email at rhb19966@verizon.net.

2019 Pumpkin Run

I want to let everyone know that the dates for the 2019 PUMPKIN RUN have changed. The rally will be held in Millsboro, DE on April 26 – 27- 28, 2019.
For the past 3 years we have used the Microtel in Georgetown but due to a price increase ($129 per night to $199 per night) I have reserved a block of rooms at the Quality Inn also in Georgetown. The Quality Inn (20530 Dupont Blvd) is ¾ mile north of the Microtel. They have given us rates of $103 to $120 per night depending on the type of room.
The Quality Inn will hold our block of rooms until March 25, 2019.
There is another function that weekend and rooms are limited. If you are planning to join us, please make your reservation as soon as possible. When you make your reservation, please ask about their cancellation policy.
Call Quality Inn @ 302-854-9400
Ask for Northeast Rally Club rate (Our account # 3573921).
I will be mailing entry forms in February and you can also check our website @ www.northeastrallyclub.com
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and New Year’s.

2018 Pumpkin Run, Stage 2 Recap

Car 64 had a good day today. Our rookie navigator has come a long way in such a short weekend. He knew nothing on Friday. Seriously. I didn’t want to worry him, so I didn’t even show him what the instructions look like. I spent Friday morning training him, and Friday afternoon trying to peel him off the ceiling. By Saturday afternoon he really was getting the hang of it, and we were thrilled to find out we had the second best score of the day (before the worst leg got thrown out, then we were 4th). Of course, Sunday is for all the marbles and the pressure was on!

You don’t know how you are doing while you are rallying. You hope things are going well, but you have nothing to measure against. We were in the back of the field but had several good cars in front of us and behind us. We didn’t see anyone all day, except for glimpses of them on long straightaways from time to time. We thought we were doing well, and when the good cars left from the morning break almost exactly on our calculated time we felt like it really might be a good day.  Our scores for the first 2 legs were ACE and :06, then a pair of :02s. The 5th leg wasn’t anything special, we didn’t bobble (much), but we had a :21. Devastating because your score on Sunday is your score – nothing can be thrown out.  Worst leg of the weekend and it is the last one on Sunday…

We still finished 3rd on PRO. Our :22 for Stage 1 (:16 after the worst leg was tossed) made our weekend total :47. decent for a part timer like me and a fresh out of the package rookie in the navigator seat. We beat some really good teams. And most importantly, Vern might be willing to practice a bit for the next go-round.

Also, the GTO looked great, and even better with 2 ACE decals!

Congrats to all the winners:

Champion Division: Doug & Dana Sharp (1), Hudson, Hudson and Hudson (60) and the Deerings in car 83

Pro Division: Haverty/Kucera (29), Rutledge/Rutledge (25), Roche/McKinney (64)

SOP: Corey/Corey (8), Craig/Craig (18), Chikes/Sobiesky (7)

Rookie: Sirvaitia / Studeman (19) and Bent / Stuart (22)

Thanks to all the volunteers, the Millsboro Fire Dept, Bob Bryan, and everyone else who donated or helped in some other way to make this an outstanding event!

I can’t wait for the Spring rally!!!
